Well...perhaps to SOME degree she may have been right. If you've ever read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle then did some research about the meat industry today, you'll realize that not very much has changed.

It's said that Teddy Roosevelt was reading the book while eating sausages for breakfast...then he read the line about meat cutters losing their fingers and it getting mixed in the shredder so that nobody could figure out what was and wasn't pork. Roosevelt stopped eatting sausages soon after.
