It's just another bus type. It'll end up being faster than AGP eventually. At present the speed difference isn't that noticible unless you're doing SLI with nVidia cards. To do SLI, you need 2 of the exact same PCI Express video cards and an SLI capable motherboard. Changes for your system: You probably dont have a PCI Express slot on the motherboard. (and 2 are needed for SLI) so that will mean a new motherboard as well. I'd check those things first, as that's extra expense in addition to the video card. |

Well I had a long post but that got ate since this thing kicks you off if you sit idle too long in forums so when I hit submit button POOF and the log in screen appears. Ok so my short response PCI-E the latest video slot standard, supposed to be faster than AGP, current AGP has X8 vs PCI-E's X16 slot. Is it faster than AGP? It will most likely eventually replace AGP. SLI and PCI-E, new tech not yet the standard and only a handful of games support, or take advantage of this feature. Some say it improves other games others disagree. Also ATI is pushing their own method for next generation graphics and since neither is standard yet who knows how this will end up. I would humbly suggest focusing on motherboard with maximum front bus speed, there's 1066/888mhz and slower. Faster is better, also read up on controler chipsets on motherboards some are better than others in performance. RAM, again faster is better DDR or DDR2 matched memory and at least 1gig of ram in my humble opinion. Hard Drives I'm mostly clueless here I do know higher RPM drives with onboard memory buffers are the rage and new RAID connection or SATA drives are supposed to be fastest? Even the sound card can change performance. I don't claim all the above is the absolute truth feel free to correct any mistakes. Remember as it was once explained to me your computer will only be as fast as your SLOWEST component so every part is important. Different brands cost different prices for a reason, cheap isn't always the best. LOL the short post. |

THis PC that I just had built for me has a PCI express type vid card. I did indeed have to get the gigabyte 4 SLI series motherboard to go with it.. well we got the MB first then got the Nvidia card to match but he knew what he was doing when he built it. I love my new PC... |
